Obituary of MARTHA KRAUSE
MARTHA KRAUSE
(nee Stekler)
January 2, 1916 – March 21, 2016
Martha passed peacefully from her earthly home at Park Manor Care Home to her heavenly mansion with her Saviour, Jesus Christ, on March 21, 2016.
She is survived by her daughter Geraldine (Ken) Moffatt, granddaughter Christine (Gerry) Moffatt, great grandson, Jack Jorssen in Langley, B.C. and her son Larry of Winnipeg and many nieces and nephews.. She was predeceased by her husband William, of 41 years of marriage in 1980, parents Ludwig and Anna Stekler, as well as all of her siblings, Albert, Walter, Ernie, Lillian, Arthur, Olga, and Kathleen.
Martha was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for her 100 years of life. She was baptized, attended their school, confirmed, married, and faithfully attended weekly services until moving to Park Manor in 2013. She also was a member of the Ladies’ Aid of the church. Martha lived all of her life in Winnipeg, most of it in houses on Windsor Avenue in Elmwood. Martha was a furrier before she became a loving and caring wife and devoted mother. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, word search puzzles, baking delicious doughnuts, making literally hundreds of candied apples for Hallowe’en through the years, and spending wonderful weekends at the cottage at Matlock in summer.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Park Manor for their care and compassion during her stay as well as all her friends, neighbours and pastors through the years.
A small Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 1, at 1 PM in Elmwood Cemetery. The Memorial Service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Avenue, Winnipeg, R2L 1G7 on Saturday, April 2, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Harald Schoubye officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Martha’s name to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Jesus said to Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord,” she told him, “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who has come into this world.”
