Obituary of ANNE ISMOND

DR. ANNE ISMOND BSc [Hon.] MSc. PhD [Nee Hoskins] With heavy hearts, we say good-bye to an extra special and loving wife and sister. To the delight of parents, Marjorie and Clive Hoskins and big sister Val, Anne was born on Friday, May 13, 1949 in Regina SK. She passed peacefully at home in her sleep on Sunday, February 21, 2016. A precocious kid, Anne attended Craven’s two-room school for grades one to nine and completed her high school in Lumsden SK. While in high school, Anne partook in various sports, and was on the volleyball team that took the Saskatchewan title. She was also involved in many other high school activities and, out of school, took piano lessons and equestrian jumping lessons. Valedictorian of her Grade 12 class, she was presented with the Governor General’s Medal and scholarships to continue her education. In 1970, Anne completed her Bachelor of Science (Honors) at the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus, where she met her future husband, Glenn Ismond. In 1972, she finished her Master of Science at the University of Manitoba. Glenn and Anne were married in 1973. Anne taught at the University of Winnipeg while Glenn taught Junior High. They spent many delightful years working and being involved in sports and socializing with their many friends. In 1984, Anne completed her PhD in Biochemistry at the U of M under the tutelage of Dr. Don Murray, and then she taught in the Food Science Department for many years. While teaching, Anne had many interesting experiences and won many accolades. Once she hosted a symposium in East Germany – behind the Iron Curtain. Anne continued working until she experienced a stroke when she was 52 which precipitated many health issues. Anne fought these as she tackled all her life’s hurdles - with every ounce of her being Predeceased by her parents, Anne leaves to mourn her husband Glenn, her sister Val [Young] and husband Mac [McGregor], brother-in-law Ron [Sylvia] Ismond, nephew Hill [Gaylene] Ismond, niece Kathleen [Leos] Loch-Ismond, and nephew Dan Ismond. Great-nephews, Connor, Spenser, and Ethan; Great-nieces Daniel Ford and Kirsten Ismond, and their children; and numerous cousins on both sides of the family. She will be sorely missed by the many friends she made over the years. Anne has left holes in many peoples’ hearts. In addition to the numerous family, friends, and neighbours, the family would like to thank the following people that helped Anne over the years: Dr. Jack Nipon, Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov, Dr. Michael Eleff, Dr. Mark Etkin, Dr. Behzad Mansouri and their respective staffs. A Memorial Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, on Saturday afternoon, May 7 at two o’clock. There will be a reception to follow the service. Anne’s ashes will be scattered in her favourite places later. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, to help them carry on their important work.
