Obituary of DOBRODIYKA OLHA PAWLYSHYN

DOBRODIYKA OLHA PAWLYSHYN Peacefully, on February 10, 2016, at Holy Family Nursing Home, our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Dobrodiyka Olha fell asleep in the Lord. Born in Peremyshl, Ukraine on March 17, 1923, she immigrated to Manitoba in 1931, where her family farmed; instilling in her values of faith, hard work, and a lifelong love of gardening. Her gardens always brought her great joy. During her teenage years, she played mandolin, and sang in a summer choir directed by Oleksander and Tetiana Koshetz, making her one of the original members of the O. Koshetz choir, which we still sing in to this day. She had a beautiful voice, and loved to sing. Mama and Tato often listened to opera and classical music, as well as Ukrainian artists, instilling in us a love of music. She was called “Baba” by her grandchildren, and many others, and was cherished for her hugs and kisses. She was a kind and gentle soul, always willing to lend a hand. She loved her grandchildren with all her heart, and their visits and family get-togethers brought her much joy. She spent years assisting our Father with everything that goes with the title of Dobrodiyka, and parish life. Besides raising a family, she found time to help out wherever she was needed. This included: singing in the church choir, acting as cantor, being a Sunday school teacher, making prosphora, assisting in the kitchen, or cleaning the church. She will be missed by the members of St. Ivan Suchavsky, especially the Perogy Club, where she spent many hours mixing fillings, or preparing the dough. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Protopresbyter Michael, son Alexander, parents Ivan and Ksenia Tychonky, brother Nestor, and sister Alexandra, and brother-in-law Clayton Gross, and brother-in-law, Martin Mooy. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ihor(Marianne), Julie(Gary)Kowalchuk, Nick(Yolanda), her seven grandchildren: Michael, Maria, Adrian, Christopher, Anastasia, Brian and Melanie, sister Orysia Mooy and nephew John, her extended family throughout North America, and Europe, and her church family. Special thanks to all the home care workers who allowed Mom to stay in her home as long as she could. She loved each and every one of you, as her hugs could attest. To Drs. Fatoye, Xi and Patel, and the staff at Seven Oaks hospital for their care of mom while there. Finally, to Drs. Terry and Andrea Babick, and all the staff of 3A at Holy Family Nursing Home for all your loving care, kindness, and support towards our mother, and to us during her final days. This was where she loved to leave everyone with her favourite wave and saying, “Until we meet again.” Prayers will be held.at 7:30pm on Tuesday, February 16 and Funeral Service on Wednesday, February 17 at 10am at St. Ivan Suchavsky Cathedral at 939 Main St, with Fr. Henry Lakusta officiating. Pallbearers will be her beloved grandchildren. If friends so desire, donations may be made to St. Ivan Suchavsky Cathedral, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
