Obituary of LORI WIERSEMA

LORI WIERSEMA We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, daughter, & sister, Lori Wiersema on January 20, 2016. She is survived by her loving husband Phil, and her amazing children (her "fab four") Julia, Ashley, Kevin, & Shannon. She will also be dearly missed by her parents Douglas and Patricia Poapst and her brothers Allan and Gregory. We thank her medical teams who have supported her these last 3 years. Lori had an incredible impact on everyone she met, and has left behind four of the kindest, most loving children as her legacy in this world. Everyone promises to do everything to help Phil keep them happy, safe, and as enthusiastic about the world as their mother was. Lori was born to be a mother and loved working with all children - from being a daycare worker to mother and finally as a teacher. Lori had tremendous drive and delighted in having a positive impact on children everywhere; this lead to her achieving her dream of becoming a teacher in 2014 while still being an amazing mother. She was such a determined force of nature that she completed the last eighteen months of her degree while undergoing treatment after her first diagnosis. Just hearing of her life as wife, mother, patient, and student at the same time left us all breathless and shaking our head in wonder. Lori always had the most fun at any event she went to. She seemed to have an inside joke with almost everyone she knew. She had an eclectic mix of tastes, being able to sing a Backstreet Boys love song at the top of her lungs one moment, and quoting an outrageous Chris Rock comedy routine the next. She was, in short, the centre of our lives in so many ways and we will miss her tremendously. Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Donations may be made to Breast Cancer c/o CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of your choice.
