Obituary of FRANK SHYMKO

FRANK SHYMKO On December 29th, 2015 at 2:22am, at Seven Oaks Hospital, Frank Shymko, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 83. Along with his wife, Anne (nee Chubaty) Shymko, he is survived by son, Gordon Shymko (Chris), daughter, Barbara Wilson (Chester), grandchildren, Mallory Taylor (Chad) and Demaris Wilson-Klemchuk (Brett). He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Anne Shymko, sister, Pearl (Danylchuk), and brothers, Martin and George. Frank was born on October 20th, 1932 in Carlowrie, Manitoba, into a farming family. At the age of fifteen, Frank left Carlowrie to go to the big city of Winnpeg, where he began his career in the sign industry. In 1954 Frank met the love of his life, Anne Chubaty. They were married on August 13th, 1955. Their son Gordon, was born in 1958, with their daughter Barbara, following in 1960. Over the years, Frank learned the craft of the sign industry, moving steadily up in the business, until the pinnacle of his career when he became partners with Ken Devine in Electra Sign. During this time, Frank welcomed his two amazing granddaughters and enjoyed spending time with them. One of Franks proudest achievements was having Electra Sign become the first Canadian company to join the World Sign Associates. Frank remained an active member, and eventually achieved a term as President of the WSA. He remained lifelong friends with the many members he worked with. He retired at the age of 71 in 2003 due to health issues, after which he could be found most mornings on the fairways of Larters Golf Course, and sometimes in the trees. The last few years of Frank’s life were spent at RiverRidge Retirement Home, with wife Anne, where he found himself surrounded by old and new friends. After no longer being able to golf on a course, Frank learned that he could avoid the trees and fees by playing Wii Golf, and spent many enjoyable afternoons doing so. This past August, Frank celebrated 60 years of marriage with his beautiful wife, Anne. Frank was an extremely hard worker and problem solver. Laughter was an essential part of life for him, and his wise-cracking was endless. His family was of the utmost importance to him and there was nothing that he would not do for them. Despite his severely declining health, we, his family, were fortunate enough to celebrate a wonderful Christmas together. It is the memories of this beautiful time that softens our grief. We love you, and we will miss you always. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
