Obituary of GLORIA MAY SAPROWICH

Gloria May Saprowich (nee Warenko) Surrounded by her family Gloria passed away peacefully on October 22, 2015 at the age of 80. She is survived by her husband of 47 years George and her children Doug, Marcy (Mark) and Debra (Lance) as well as her grandchildren Jessica, Kailyn and Brooke and her sisters Sonja and June. She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Mary Warenko, her sister Franny and infant brother Joseph. Gloria graduated from Normal School in 1954 and taught primary school for almost 14 years until her marriage to George when she retired to raise her family. Gloria was always involved with various school committees and enjoyed spending time at the farm in Gardenton, Manitoba. She enjoyed the summer vacations on the road in the van visiting her sister in Edmonton and later her daughters as they moved west to Calgary and Vancouver. She was involved in the St. Andrew’s United Church on Elgin Avenue for many years before the church closed and she began attending Grey Street United. She enjoyed bowling in the Reliance Bowling League with George for many years where she made numerous close friends. Gloria lived most of her life in the family home where she helped raise her three sisters and then her three children. In her later years she enjoyed sitting on the deck looking at her garden and watching the birds and squirrels. Mom was an excellent cook and enjoyed making large family dinners which were always at 4:30 sharp. Her perogies were legendary and word of them spread out through the in-laws and their families. Now her children and grandchildren carry along the tradition, but we still can’t make her turkey stuffing. A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday November 9 at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street. A private family interment will occur at a later date.
