We announce with sadness the passing of John Kosc, husband, dad, and grampa on August 5, 2015, 7 days short of his 91 birthday (August 12).
John is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary; his sons David, Ken (Simone), Daniel (Joanne), Bob (Bonnie), Marian (Ken), Anthony (Kathy); 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; sister Veronica; in-laws John (Jean), Vicky (Don), Stella (Marvin), Peter (Stella), Kaz, Joe (Barbara), Sally, Lorea (Dean); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Veronica Kosc; sisters Ann, Mary, Elonka, Martha; brother Mike; daughter-in-law Janet ; grandson William Anthony; many other in-laws and family members too many to mention.
John came to Canada in 1930 from Czechoslovakia with his parents and 3 siblings and resided in Tilley, AB. After 10 years, their family expanded to 7 children, they moved to Sanford, MB where they remained. John moved to Winnipeg in 1946 and lived in a rooming house on Young Street where he met his wife to be, Mary. They fell in love and were married in 1950 and had 5 sons and 1 daughter. He worked at Dominion Motors then joined Dickson Motors and then Birchwood Motors where he stayed for many years until his retirement in 1990. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, nature and he passed on his knowledge of the outdoors to his 5 boys.
John was an active member of Holy Family Parish for over 70 years, a member of Knights of Columbus and the Queen of Peace Prayer group.
Prayers will be said on Monday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Parish, 1001 Grant Avenue. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church with Rev. Fr. Darren Kawiuk as celebrant. Interment will be at 4:00p.m. in the Poplarfield Community Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Poplarfield Community Hall.
Very special thanks to all the nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital and all who helped in any way.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
