Obituary of HAZEL CATHERINE MCLEAN

HAZEL CATHERINE MCLEAN (Miller) (nee: Patterson) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hazel Catherine McLean beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother on July 15th, 2015 at Grace Hospital, at the age of 99. She was predeceased by her parents, Pete and Mary Patterson; siblings Nesbit (Roberta), Ellen (Peter McLaren, Gordon McArthur), Margaret (Jack Vosper), Eileen (Jack Levacque) and Belle (Ab Busch); first husband James Miller in 1956 and second husband Emmett McLean in 2002; and son in-law Lee Thompson in 2008. To cherish Hazel’s life, she leaves her son Garry (Irene) and daughter Adele; grandchildren David, Mark (Tina), Robert (Trish), Tim Miller and, James and Isabel Thompson; great-grandchildren Rylan, Courtney, Jared, Justin, Chantel, and Hannah Miller, Shaun Filby, and Madison Miller; numerous nieces and nephews; and her McLean children and families. Hazel was born May 26th, 1916. She lived in Shellmouth, MB and married James (Jim) Miller in 1940. They moved to Fork River, MB to start their new home. They had two children, Garry and Adele. Hazel and Jim farmed at Fork River until Jim’s death. From 1958 to 1981 Hazel lived and worked in Winnipeg and Russell. For about six years during that span she lived in Shellmouth looking after her Dad (Pete Patterson) in his senior years. Hazel married Emmett McLean in 1982. They lived in Dauphin, MB. Hazel and Emmett were married for 20 years. They had a busy social life, enjoyed gardening, travelling, and visiting family. Hazel moved to Winnipeg in 2002 and lived at the Kiwanis for four years. Hazel moved to Golden West Centennial Lodge (GWCL) in 2006. She enjoyed her time with staff and other residents. Hazel loved playing the organ, curling, knitting, and ceramics in her younger years. In later years she enjoyed jumble puzzles, and CNIB talking tapes. She also looked forward to activities (especially word game and card bingo), chapel and weekly entertainment provided by GWCL. She treasured daily visits with daughter Adele, visits with son Garry, and time spent with all of her family and friends. A very special thanks to all GWCL staff for their friendship, support and loving care; and to Grace Hospital ER and 3South staff for their kindness and support at a difficult time. A private interment will be at Shellmouth Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the CNIB Library Services 1929 Bayview Ave, Toronto, ON M4G 3E8, or charity of your choice.
