Obituary of CHRISTINE HELEN TERRI COOK

CHRISTINE HELEN TERRI COOK March 9,1949 - June 10, 2012 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Christine Helen Terri Cook (nee Simpson) former Chief of the Bloodvein First Nation, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter, auntie and friend to many. After a lengthy battle with cancer Helen took her last breath in the arms of her loved ones at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB. Helen was born to John Robert Simpson and Eva Simpson (nee Guiboche) in Winnipegosis, MB. Her first years were spent on the families Metis farm in Camperville, MB until 1954 when the family relocated to Winnipeg, MB. She went on to live in Birch River, Calgary Alberta and finally settled in Winnipeg where she married and raised her family between Winnipeg and Bloodvein First Nation. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred James Cook Jr., her father John Robert Simpson, her mother Eva Simpson (nee Guiboche), her brothers Mervin John Simpson and Clarence Simpson, Aunt Ernestine, Uncle Emmanuel, her beloved nephew Dwayne Sawatzky, and her grandson Braeden Storm Cook. Helen was the 3rd born child to a family of 11 siblings and leaves to mourn and cherish her memory are her children Robert (family), Derek (Cathy), Craig (family), Lois (family), Alfred (Aurora) and Mervin (Trishia), grandson Corey, her sisters Yvonne (Art), Shirley, Judy (Don), Bernice (Bob), Annette, brothers Jack (Laura), Wayne, Gord and Wallace Dudeck as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. Helens life was filled with many accomplishments and accolades and she lived her life to serve others in everything she did. She gave many years of service to the community of Bloodvein First Nation as Chief and went on to continue working with the community until the end of her life. She was the soul of her family and continued to love and support them until her final breath. She touched the lives of so many more and will be missed and cherished by all. In keeping with Helens wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Her Life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 11am - 2pm. The family would like to thank all those who came to comfort and support during our difficult time. You shall live in our hearts forever!
