MARY KOWALYK
Our lovely, gentle, dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, Mary Kowalyk (nee Kubas) passed away quietly on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the age of 97 years at the Health Sciences Centre, widow of the late John Kowalyk.
Mary was born in Poplarfield, MB on May 12, 1915 to Josephus and Francisca (Hardek) Kubas. John and Mary married October 7, 1939. Throughout her life mom was a loving, caring, giving person who was always concerned about others. Left to cherish her beautiful memory is her daughter, Sharon (Myles), Chelsea, grandsons Corey (Lynnette), Dustin and Denny (Donna); great grandchildren Jessica and Joshua, Sydney, Cassidy and Meadow.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband John on November 5, 1982 and her siblings, John, Stan, Waytick, Frank, Pete, Joe, Walter, Ludwick, Ann Swarychewski, Helen Schepaniuk and Magda Huywan.
Mary was employed at the Canadiana Motor Hotel and then the Winnipeg Convention Centre. She was an active parishioner of St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church and an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League.
A special heartfelt thank you to all her wonderful caregivers at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre.
In celebration of Mary's memory, a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. with Fr. Len Ratushniak, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
