JACOB SCHLEIER
Jacob Schleier passed peacefully with his wife by his side on Thursday, June 25, 2015. Jacob beloved husband, father and Opa passed away at the age of 87 years.
Besides his wife Katherina, he is survived by daughter Anne (Vernon) and son Alfred; grandchildren Michael, Rachel (Andrew), Brendan and Jake. Jacob also leaves to mourn his passing a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law and friends. He was predeceased by his four siblings.
Jacob was born March 25, 1928 at Brsljanica, Yugoslavia. He was the youngest of five and had a pleasant childhood. At age fourteen his family was moved out of their home due to war in Europe. Jacob and Katherina were married on April 26, 1951 in Austria. They made their way to Altkirch, France until they immigrated to Winnipeg in March 1955 in order to create a better future for their family.
Jacob worked for Progressive Manufacturing until his retirement in 1993. In addition to his job, he spent many hours helping extended family on the farm, teaching driving lessons and on home improvement projects. Yet he still had time for family vacations, road trips and camping.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 2 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 370 McKenzie St. at College Ave. with Pastor Don Engel officiating. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba in lieu of flowers.
