Obituary of KATHLEEN SELCI
KATHLEEN SELCI
March 28, 1928 – June 5, 2012
The family of Kathleen Selci announces her peaceful passing. Dignified and independent during life, Kathleen’s quality of life had been declining over many months.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Michael, five sisters and one brother, and leaves to cherish her memory her sister Amy Troyer; her children, sons Wayne (Margaret), Michael (Shauna), daughter Sharon (John) Havixbeck; her nine grandchildren Roseanne (Robert), Tanya (Nic), Mike, Catherine, Julianne, Erin, Jeffrey, Samantha, Cameron; her one great grandchild Cordyn and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
Kathleen grew up on the family farm in Angusville, MB, and then was off to Normal school to become a teacher. She met her husband of 55 years, Michael, in Winnipeg and started their life together as proprietors of M & K café in Buchanan, SK. Moving with her husband’s career, and growing family Kathleen lived in Vancouver, Saskatchewan, and finally Winnipeg making lasting friendships along the way. A long time parishioner of St. Basil’s Parish, Kathleen was active with the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s league where she was president and a member for 50 years also serving on the Ukrainian National Council. She later obtained her real estate license, was an accredited appraiser, active toastmaster, volunteer for newcomers to Canada and hosted countless guests, while running a bed and breakfast from her home on Carlyle Bay.
Kathleen enjoyed travelling with her husband Michael, family and friends to Europe, Australia, Ukraine, and many parts of the United States. Family was Kathleen’s priority and she was the glue that brought family members together for special occasions and dinners. A classy lady and phenomenal cook and hostess, Kathleen took pride in her children, grandchildren, and extended relatives and their accomplishments both large and small.
Prayers will be held Friday, June 8, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Basil’s Parish, 202 Harcourt St. Divine Liturgy will be held on Saturday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. also at St. Basil’s Parish with Fr. Walter Klimchuk officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Kathleen was a dedicated parishioner for many years at St. Basil’s Parish. Donation may be made to St. Basil’s Parish or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
After Glow
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly
down the ways of happy times and laughing
time, and bright sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve today
before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave
when life is done
