Obituary of JOSEPHINE (JOYCE) GILCHUK
JOSEPHINE (JOYCE) GILCHUK (nee WILGOSH)
It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and colleague Joyce Gilchuk on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the age of 76 years at the Riverview Health Centre. She was a true fighter, overcoming H1N1, colon cancer, lung cancer and her final battle was with COPD.
Joyce is survived by her three children, Denise (Don), Charlene (Troy), and Glen (Kerri); grandchildren, Taylor, Jordana, Houston, Dawson, Rylan, and Norah; along with many nephews and nieces. She also leaves to mourn her passing brothers Ted, Wilfred (Barbara), and Bert (Evelyn), and her sister Jean (Norman). She was predeceased by her mother Rose, father Stanley, sister-in law June and Nephew Paul.
Joyce was born on March 24, 1939 in Selkirk, MB. She grew up in Highland Glen, MB but later moved to Winnipeg where she spent the rest of her life. She was last employed for 27 years at Canada Post before retiring in 2007. Joyce enjoyed her weekly Kinsmen Bingo, going to the casino, and watching all sports. Most of all, Joyce was a very devoted mother and grandmother. She lovingly kept the family supplied with perogies, borscht, cabbage rolls and other homemade dishes. Our mom loved to surprise the grandchildren with toys and treats. She will always be remembered and missed for her witty sense of humor and things she would say and do that always seemed to make us laugh. She was so very kind and caring and was always the first person to help in any type of crisis. Joyce will be missed.
The family acknowledges the wonderful staff from the doctors and nurses to the health care aides, students and cleaning staff at Riverview. Special thanks for all the kindness and caring our mother received.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be at a later date. Memorial services will be held on April 27, 2015 at 2 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Manitoba Lung Association.
