Obituary of REBECCA BRENDA LEE HANNEM-SIEMENS
REBECCA BRENDA LEE HANNEM-SIEMENS
Rebecca "Becky" Hannem-Siemens, 56, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Grace Hospital surrounded by family. Born in Winnipeg, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Louise (Nieman) Chernov.
Rebecca was the eldest of four children. When she was a little girl she was a favourite of her Grandfather, who affectionately called her 'Peggy'. In her late teens, Rebecca sought employment with the Victorian Order of Nurses. An avid guitarist, singer and accordion player, Rebecca, along with her younger sister Miriam and other musicians, pleased many at various churches, coffee houses and the Memorial Park Stage. She was a very spiritual person and a believer in prayer, and this reflected greatly in her music, songs and poetry she enjoyed writing - one such poem was published.
She was blessed in 1980 with twin sons - Aaron and Zephaniah. She worked diligently as a stay-at-home mother to her young children. While doing this, Rebecca attended various church meetings including a Mom and Me Bible Study. Then, in 1989 Rebecca gave birth to her third and final child, who she named Peggy after her nickname from her Grandfather.
In 1992 she met her future husband, Brian Siemens. Rebecca and Brian wed in 2000 at a small country church in Headingley, MB. Rebecca enjoyed her Jewish heritage and partook in the many celebrations of her Jewish and Christian faith. Everyone was welcome in her home. Whether it was for a meal or a place to sleep, no one was turned away. This was how she came to meet many people. Becky had a wonderful sense of humour and could make anyone laugh especially while doing her character imitations. After the passing of her mother, Louise, Rebecca vowed she would continue the tradition of bringing the family together on special occasions. Family was extremely important to Rebecca, and she always cherished her visits with her children and grandchildren.
Rebecca leaves to mourn her passing; her husband Brian Siemens; sons Aaron (Karen) Hannem and Zephaniah Hannem, daughter Peggy (Sean) Holland; sister Miriam (Mark) Rogowski; brothers Sidney (Carol) Chernov, and Gary (Janet) Chernov; six grandchildren, Jimmy, Jacob, Jack, Matthew, Autumn and Scarlett; one nephew Chris (Melissa) Thomas and two great nephews, Logan and Montana.
Becky you are now in the arms of the angels.
The family wishes to thank the hard working people of Grace Hospital, Pastor Rudy Fidel and wife Gina and Cropo Funeral Chapel for their support.
