Dear Gail & Bruce: My husband Richard and I were sorry to hear of your father's passing today. We planned a visit to Gimli to bring him a canvas painted and signed by your mother. It comprises of a lake and cottage landscape. My mother Eveline is in hospital and may need to be placed in a nursing home. We found the painting while cleaning her home and assumed it was given to my father Gerard as a gift. As the painting may have sentimental value for you, we wish to return it to her benefactors. We live in Winnipeg and can deliver it to you. I'm sorry we didn't get to see your dad in order to brighten his day with this treasure from the past. Our sincerest condolences. Lucille & Rick

Our hearts go out to you now at this time of loss .... I'm Andre's son Ben. My memory of your Daddy Jim go back to a Sobering reunion when I was about four years old. My brother Art and I sang Its a small world after all at the reunion. And I remember your dad and my Grandpa sitting on the front row listening to us. Uncle Jim took us on a tour of a beef processing plant in Winnipeg. Towards the end we went to the cooler I was small and very cold then Jim picked me up and tucked me under his long coat and carried me for awhile. I've always had that warm memory of your Dad...... May his spirit of kindness live on .... Love from our family to yours Ben and Lana Litwiller

Dear Bruce, Gail, and families:
I'm still thinking of you all & wishing I could have really learned to know this wonderful Friesen family. Are there more cousins? I hope I can find out. Maybe Barb will clue me in when she gets home. This is possibly the only way we will keep the Friesen family name alive is to learn to know each other.
I, of course, will be with you tomorrow in thought and I will pray for you not to be too sad. Your dad would want you to remember him, like he said, by doing kind things for others. I thought that was the most selfless and the best and most far reaching request he could make.
Love, Virgil and Andree
ps. I'm jealous of Cindy and Art and Ang and their family for meeting you and having such good memories of their time with you...but I'm happy that they know you and have a little clue about this Friesen family heritage that came to be their own.

Dear Gail, Bruce & Sandra and children,
Our thoughts and prayers have been with you the last few days since Great Uncle Jims passing.
Virgil & Andree' Litwiller are my parents, they live in Arizona.
Angela and I have stopped in a couple times. Years ago when Jill and Todd were real young we had dinner with Great Uncle Jim, Great Aunt Flourance, and Gail. More recently we were there in Gimli for an hour or so with all our children Jill, Todd, Beth, and Kate. G.U. Jim was living with you Bruce and Sandra. We have thought of that visit many times. We would love to stop in again in the summer time.
Grandpa Art spoke very fondly of your father and we wish we could have known him better. G.U. Jim's request that we practice random acts of kindness reminds me very much of G. Arts life too.
May God be near and comfort you in this difficult time.
We love you all and hope to meet again.
Art&Angela,Jill Todd Beth and Kate

Dear Bruce, Sandra, and family and Gail:
I am Art & Lucille's 1st born. Barb & Cindy follow, each of us 5 yrs apart. We are 1st cousins & yet hardly know each other. COME when you can, we welcome you most heartily: 13735 W. Tartan Dr. Sun City West, AZ. Tele: 623 866 8275
I remember your dad mostly from stories Dad told. I do believe they had a happy childhood, especially with their spirited mother, Barbara. I loved her.
At Grandma's funeral your dad cried so hard & they sang that mournful, yet true song, "We are going down the Valley one by one." Today we step up to the open grave. By age sequence, we are next. This is very sobering. In life we have many choices, in eternity we have only two. Let us prepare for a happy eternity.
We share Mennonite roots. If you ever care to learn more about them, e-mail: gospeltract@cogicm.org
And dear Gail, I remember you with a tender heart.
Love to all, Virgil & Andree

Condolences to Bruce,Sandra, and family and to Gail We got to know Jim in the fall of 1952, when his mother became my stepmother, and thru the years kept in touch. In the 50s he would sometimes spend weekends on the farm, even stacking bales! In recent years we visited Jim in Gimli at his retirement place. It was always pleasant to visit him. We will miss him. God bless you.
