Obituary of HAZEL JOAN SINCLAIR

HAZEL JOAN SINCLAIR On February 22, 2015, Hazel Sinclair died at Donwood Manor. Hazel Joan Sinclair was born to Harry and Florence Cadle on December 9th, 1926. Harry had fought in World War I and married Florence following the war. They both immigrated to Canada with Florence pregnant with Ruby, Hazel’s oldest sister. They settled in Winnipeg. All of Florence’s children were born at home in an apartment in Elmwood. In addition to Ruby, Hazel had a brother named Gerald and another sister, Winnie. The family moved to Windsor Avenue in Elmwood. Hazel attended George V primary school and Lord Selkirk for secondary education. Hazel was a star student and completed Grade 11 with an option to continue to Grade 12. While she was waiting to do matriculation, she applied for jobs. She got a job before school started at the Canadian Wheat Board as a comptometer operator. Hazel married Bill Sinclair on August 9th, 1951. In July 1952, Wendy arrived followed by Rick in April 1954, Ross in January 1958 and David in March 1962. Hazel lived in Elmwood for all but 2 years of her life. She and Bill lived on Windsor Avenue two doors down from Harry and Florence. Hazel was an excellent cook, canned huge volumes of food, created delicate needlepoint, loved to play Bingo, and participated with her sisters in a Senior’s Bowling League. She was a member of the Elmwood Legion Women’s Auxiliary and worked at Woolco for many years. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Bill who died in 1979. Her sisters Ruby and Winnie also predeceased her. Her brother Gerald died at 3 years of age. Hazel leaves to mourn her passing her: son David, son Ross (Ginger, Corey, Lindsay (Coltin) and Jenna (Dustin); son Rick and his wife Debbie, Lauren Marantz (Noah, Isaac and Sadie) and son Evan; daughter Wendy and her husband Campbell Sharman (step-children Jason and Bethany). She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Dianne (husband John and family), Gerry (wife Leda and family), Michael (wife Sandy and family), and Darlene (husband Gordon and family). The family would like to thank the staff at Donwood Manor for their exemplary care of Hazel, in particular nurse, Janice Siemens and Dr. Martin. Hazel’s sons have provided caring and loving care to her during her time at Donwood Manor. A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 28th at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Hazel’s name to the Alzheimer Society – Canada.
