Obituary of BARBARA EDITH WAINWRIGHT
BARBARA EDITH WAINWRIGHT
November 7, 1924 – May 31, 2012
We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Wainwright on May 31 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2007, and by parents Albert and Annie Hurd and sister Joyce Richardson of England.
Barbara was born in Uckfield, Sussex, England. She met Jim on her birthday in 1943 and often referred to him as her 19th birthday present. They were married in March 1946 and came to Canada later that year. Barbara worked in the garment industry and then as a union rep until her retirement. Her father was a head gardener on large estates in England and he passed his love of gardening on to her. She loved animals, especially her cats. She and Jim spent many happy hours volunteering at the Assiniboine Park Conservatory, the Zoo and for the Friends of the Conservatory. She loved to travel, experiencing many trips to US cities for her work and, for many years, annual trips back to England.
Barbara lived a rich life. Although she and Jim had no children of their own, they were Aunt Barbara and Uncle Jim to many. She leaves a family and many friends who will cherish her memory.
We would like to thank the Convalescent Home for their kind and compassionate care over the last year both to Barbara and to her family.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Pastor Brad Elliott officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo St. North, R3M 2N6, or the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, 55 Pavilion Crescent, Winnipeg, R3P 2N6, noting the donation is to the Conservatory.
