MEENA “LUCILLE” LANGHORNE
On the morning of January 11, 2015, Lucille passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. Lucille was 79 years old.
Lucille was born to the late Madeline and Joseph Julmaladeen, December 1, 1935, in Georgetown, Guyana. She was the 2nd of 10 children. She married the late Joseph Langhorne in 1967 and they lived together in Birmingham, England before relocating to Winnipeg in 1970. Lucille and Joseph were married for 27 years until Joseph’s passing in 1994.
Lucille worked at JMJ Fashions as a factory worker for over 25 years until she retired in 2000. She was passionate about equality, respect and fair treatment to all. She eventually became a Union Rep, which was a role she enjoyed immensely. She was loved by her many colleagues that became lifelong friends.
She always loved to entertain friends and family by opening up her home and cooking her famous Guyanese dishes! Her patties, homemade bread, and roti were amongst her specialties. Lucille’s passion was cooking, baking, and gardening. Her biggest passion, however was being a Mom to her 2 children.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Sandra, and son, Richard; granddaughter, Mya & grandson, Jaedon Langhorne as well as many nieces and nephews,.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
A viewing and service will be held on Saturday, January 17th, 1pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
