Obituary of TERESA TAFERNER
TERESA TAFERNER
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Teresa Taferner in the early morning of December 24, 2014. Teresa passed away peacefully and in her home as was always her wish.
Teresa will be lovingly remembered by her son Frank Taferner and grandchildren Adam (Sara), Christine (Michael) and their mother Suzanne Taferner and their grandfather Frank Taferner. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family including Hermina Erbus, husband Vlado and their children Gordana Landygo (Daryl) and Christopher Erbus (Meaghan) and their children Tianna, Kyle, Milo and Makai; close family friends Edi and Rose Vidovic, their son David and his children Donovan and Daniel, Elizabeth Kostefko and son Greg (Sylvia) and their children. She will also be missed by her family back home and all her many friends that knew her as Oma.
Teresa was born in Ptuj, Slovenia in August 1930 and raised by her mother with her 6 siblings . In 1958 Teresa came to Winnipeg with her husband Frank and began her new life in Canada. At the age of 29 Teresa gave birth to her only son Frank. Over the years many of Teresa’s friends and family moved to Winnipeg from Slovenia and together they raised children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close family friends. Teresa was lovingly known as Oma by all those that knew her. She more than lived up to the name of “Oma” by dedicating her life to caring for others. Oma was a grandmother to all the children of the family, raising each generation of grandchildren with as much love as she cared for her own. Oma was never as happy as she was when she had a baby in her arms and never as youthful as when she was chasing a toddler through the backyard. Teresa will be remembered by her family and friends as a caregiver, a lover of animals, a woman of strength and courage, a person we could all go to for loving words and a warm meal and above all else she will be remembered as our Oma.
The family would also like to extend special thanks to Teresa’s niece Hermina Erbus for all her special care of Oma over these past few years when she needed it the most.
We will miss you Oma.
