Obituary of EMIL BORYSOWICH
EMIL BORYSOWICH
July 26, 1925 – December 6, 2014
On Saturday morning December 6, 2014, Emil passed away at Concordia Hospital at the age of 89 years. He suffered greatly with his congestive heart failure/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other ailments the last few months.
Dad will be lovingly missed by his daughters Violet (Mel) Compton and Arlene (Kurt) Blank. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren Angie (Keith McLean) Compton-McLean, Shawn (Jennifer) Compton, Christie (Kevin) Kramble, Aaron Blank (Angie Swan), and Anthony Blank; great grandchildren Mercedes and Kelsen McLean, Kayla (nee Compton) and David Price, Braden, Darian, and Riley Compton, Isabella and Jasmine Kramble, Nevaeh Aguiar Blank; great-great grandchildren Teagan and Austin Price; sister-in-law Anne Borysowich, cousin Sister Mary Borysowich, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by in-laws, Hilda Ramsay and Leonore Porter. Almost all of Dad's friends have predeceased him but he is survived by his long time neighbour and friend, Stella Black, who is like family to us. Stella and husband Alec were always available to lend a helping hand and we are very appreciative of that. Dad enjoyed many cribbage games with Alec. The two of them were like permanent fixtures at the kitchen table. Dad always remembered the fond times with the Nikkel family and we would like to thank Jean Polet for all the kind visits which Dad thoroughly enjoyed.
Emil was born, raised, and educated in the Beausejour, MB area. At age 17, he moved from the farm to Winnipeg and he became a valuable employee at Canada Packers poultry division for almost 45 years.
Emil married Irene Nikkel on October 6, 1945 and one year later, daughter Violet was born. Irene and stillborn daughter predeceased Emil in 1949. Emil married May Ramsay on February 16, 1952 and 2 ½ years later, daughter Arlene was born. May predeceased Emil in 2008. He was also predeceased by his parents, John and Anna and all of his siblings: Joe, Bill, Nick, Ben, Kay, John, and Steve.
Dad always loved to watch hockey games on TV and he especially loved to have family and friends over to play card games and visit. He was humorous and always came up with entertaining stories and quick witted remarks. Dad took great pride in his home and yard. Many hours were spent picking out the perfect flowers and vegetables for his gardens and watering them with the 100 foot garden hose meticulously placed so that it was not visible, but accessible. Dad's lawn was of great importance to him – he maintained it in such a manner that would give him the lushest and greenest results possible. He would even pull the leaves off the trees before they hit the ground so that the lawn would always look clean and he would have less to rake. Dad always made sure to bring home only the very best and freshest chickens from Canada Packers – not store bought!
Dad was the first resident to move into Concordia Village II (assisted living) on August 30, 2008, leaving his beloved home on Donegal Bay in East Kildonan. After a while, he learned to love and really appreciate his new residence. The family would like to thank all the staff and residents who helped make his life comfortable. We would also like to thank his home care workers and Janice, his foot care nurse. Special thanks go to Michelle and staff at Munroe Pharmacy. All of you contributed so much to Dad's quality of life. Our thanks is also extended to the staff at Concordia Hospital whom attended to his needs.
Dad was very appreciative of everyone who helped take care of him when his health was failing. He enjoyed all the visits from old neighbours, family, and friends while living at Concordia Village II. Although Dad did not make it to his 90th birthday like he had hoped for, he did enjoy a long life. He joked that he had outlived his quota.
A private ash interment will take place at a later date. If anyone so wishes, a donation may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one's choice. Flowers are gratefully declined.
