Obituary of JOAN CLAYDON
JOAN CLAYDON
Joan Claydon (nee Rodniski) passed quietly and at peace at home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, November 29, 2014. Joan entered into Jesus’ arms at the age of 69.
Joan was born March 24, 1945 in Winnipeg, MB and was predeceased by her parents Mary (1988) and Stanley (2000) Rodniski. She is survived by Robert, her loving husband of 45 years, three children, David, Jennifer, and Jason, and two grandchildren, Kristen and Cody Claydon, brother Gerald (Maureen), uncle Mike (Betty) Gryzko, and numerous cousins and other relatives in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Joan will be sadly missed and forever remembered.
Joan graduated from Garden City Collegiate and worked as a secretary in the City of Winnipeg Engineering and Waterworks Departments where she met Robert, through the Winnipeg Hydro Curling League. They married September 20, 1969 and about a year later she left the City’s employ to devote her energy to being a full-time homemaker and mother. Joan was a member and past president of St. Anthony of Padua’s Catholic Women’s League. Joan was happiest when celebrating and hosting family events, dinners and gatherings including anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas, New Years, etc. either at home or at the family cottage at West Hawk Lake which was a favorite place to be. She enjoyed many trips through the years to Saskatchewan to visit relatives on her father’s side, and trips to Nevada, Texas and California among others.
The family extends a special thank you to all the friends and family who kept Joan in their thoughts and prayers during her illness, and to the nurses, doctors and other staff of Palliative Care Manitoba for the care they extended to Joan. A heartfelt thank you to Joan’s long-time friends Ursula Kraemer and Maria Marchione, and cousin Sharon Sibbald, for their love and support through the years and especially during these last months.
Viewing will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic, 250 Burrin Avenue, on Friday, December 5 at 10:00 a.m., with the Mass of the Resurrection celebrated at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Father Dominic Yuen. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 88 Hespeler Ave., Winnipeg.
Pallbearers will be David, Jason and Cody Claydon, Jarred Sibbald, Robert Grycko, and Brian Huff.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Joan’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to the St Boniface General Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit, or to a charity of one’s choice.
“Eternal Rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her.”
