Obituary of SUSAN GODAR

March 31, 1950 – May 23, 2012 With heavy hearts the family of Susan Godar announces the peaceful passing of a wonderful wife, loving mother, devoted grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. We wish to give thanks for the merciful end to a prolonged and valiant struggle against Early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Susan leaves precious memories with her beloved husband and best friend, Karl, her daughter Monica (Chris), son Anthony (Wakana), her mother Carol, mother-in-law Mathilda, sister Wendy (Frank), brother Mike (Joanne),sister-in-law Marie (Gord), three beautiful grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Susan was predeceased by her father, William, and father-in-law Anton. Susan was born in Creston B.C and over the years she had the opportunity to see much of Western Canada, but it was in Winnipeg where she started and established her family. She met her best friend and future husband as a nursing student at Red River Community College. Karl was completing his Arts degree at the University of Winnipeg when a friend suggested they "check out the student nurses." Karl only needed to check out one. While nursing proved to be a fleeting passion, her love for Karl was ever-lasting. Marrying Karl brought her great joy and soon they began their family. She reveled in being a mom. There was always freshly baked bread in the kitchen, homemade chocolates and treats in the pantry and handmade Halloween costumes for trick or treating. While family always came first, Susan treasured the friends she made in the various clubs and associations she participated in. Whether it was a bowling league, bridge club, choral group, hanging out and exercising with the ladies at the "Y" or being a member of the Catholic’s Women’s League, she made long lasting friendships. People who came to know her held her in high regard – she was valued and respected because she was so giving with her time and energy. If you needed someone she was always there. The family would like to thank Dr. Darin Feasey and Dr. Paul A.Sheldon, whose care allowed us more time with her. We would also like to thank the staff of 3 West at Concordia Hospital and Lodge 6 West at Deer Lodge Centre. Pallbearers will be Joe Sukich, Ken Chizick, Steve Sukich, Tracy Sawchuk, Doug Knight and Gord Tulloch. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 30, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 95 Mac Donald Ave., officiated by Rev. Fr. Gary R. Killen. A viewing will precede the service at 12:30 p.m. A parish reception will follow interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. The song is ended, but the melody lingers on. - Irving Berlin
