Obituary of DORIS PATRICIA WORDEN

DORIS PATRICIA WORDEN July 26, 1931 – October 8, 2014 Peacefully, following a gradual 10-year decline with Alzheimer’s, it is with joy for a life well lived and peace that her struggle is over, we announce the passing of a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Pat will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 63 years, Mervin and her children Joanne Shomody, Judy Worden, Marlene Worden (Jeff), Merv (Kathy) Worden, John (Carolyn) Worden, Margaret (Jim) Popowich, Brenda (Dale) Richardson, a dozen grandchildren, a handful of great grandchildren, 4 siblings, two sisters-in-law and 4 brothers-in-law. Mom was raised on a farm in the Clear Lake area just south of Riding Mountain National Park. She is the eldest of 9 children born to Alex and Doris Hay. Her early years were marked by the economic crisis and struggles of the great depression. In the summer of 1950 Mom met the love of her life while working at the Sanatorium in Ninette. Mervin and Pat married in January 1951. In the years that followed they endured the challenges and enjoyed the benefits of raising a family of 7, from humble beginnings. We recall fondly the 25th, 50th and 60th anniversary celebrations! Pat was a career homemaker and long-time member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church. Her kind and loving ways were blessings to her family and her extended church family. Mom was a tireless worker – there was no baking, sewing, cleaning or catering job that she would not happily take on. This created some difficulty for the children when she was no longer able – seems like the chandelier was never quite clean enough after she could not do it herself! A funeral service will be held at St. John‘s Presbyterian Church – 251 Bannerman – at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. A private family interment will be held at Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery prior to the service. A special thanks to the Home Care workers who attended to Mom up until February 2014, and to the staff on 3U12 at Seven Oaks Hospital over the last 8 months. Your kind, loving and generous service to both Mom and Dad will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Presbyterian Church Kitchen Fund or a charity of your choice. Mom’s life exemplified the words of William Penn: “I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.” You have touched many, Mother. Rest in peace.
