Obituary of ANTONIO ALVES
ANTONIO ALVES
Antonio da Silva Alves, Jr. passed away suddenly on October 3, 2014 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 93 years.
He is survived by his children Antonio "Tony" (Helen) Alves and Lisete (Manuel) Prazeres; grandchildren Lilia (Jan) Gartner (Germany), Lisa Alves, Ivete Prazeres, Anthony Alves and Helder (Julie) Prazeres (Portugal); great-grandchildren Louise and Katrin Gartner (Germany), Nathaniel, Maya and Taliya Prazeres (Portugal); his sister-in-law Eleuteria; his nephews Jose Manuel (Zeca) Alves (Portugal); Jose Manuel "Joe" (Dulce) Bernardino (Ontario), and Joao "John" (Jane) Bernardino (Ontario).
Antonio was predeceased by his wife Rosa; his parents Antonio Alves and Rosa Neves; his twin brother Jose (Maria Solidade); brother Joaquim and brother-in-law Jose (Judite) Bernardino.
Antonio was born on September 3, 1921 in Ericeira, Portugal. He moved with his wife and children to Winnipeg in 1959 where he worked as a barber at Polo Park until he retired. He enjoyed spending time with his family, crossword puzzles, sueca (card game) and soccer.
Prayers will be said on Monday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m.at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue West.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Antonio's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
Antonio will be greatly missed and always remembered.
