Obituary of MARY CHERNAVITCH
MARY CHERNAVITCH NEE BILAN
On September 25, 2014 at Betel Home in Gimli MB, Mary died peacefully after a long and full life. She was predeceased by her parents Dmetro and Tekla Bilan and by her husband William Chernavitch.
Left to mourn are her sons Marvin and Gordon Chernavitch, her brothers Bill and George Bilan, niece Michelle Bilan (Bruce), nephew Mark Bilan (Naomi), and great-nephews Tanner, Cole, and Torrin.
Mary was born January 17, 1920 near Matlock MB. She and her husband Bill moved from Matlock to Winnipeg where Mary later was proud to be employed by the Eaton's Mail-order Department. Her life was turned upside down in 1968 with her husband's death, but she showed remarkable strength as she raised her sons on her own. Mary remained a devoted mother to her last breath. During her last many years in Gimli, Mary remained interested in life and in those around her. She exerted a remarkably wide sphere of influence from the confines of her armchair in her room at Betel! Many thanks to all the Betel Staff who became extended family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Gimli Betel Home. A private service and interment took place today.
Mary will be sadly missed. Rest in Peace.
