Obituary of DORIS BULEGA
DORIS BULEGA
October 18,1921 - May 3, 2012
Doris fell asleep in the Lord at 7:06 pm Thursday, May3, 2012, with her loving daughter Jean, son-in-law John, and granddaughters Laura and Diane at her bedside.
Mom was born in the Ukraine, the eldest of three and only daughter of Eudoxia Sptkowska and Theodore Woloszczuk. In 1927 her father went to Canada. Four years after her mother's death in 1935, Doris and her two brothers Paul and Alex came to their father's farm in Saskatchewan.
Mom followed her brother Paul to Winnipeg in 1942, where she met and married the love of her life, John. They were married for 42 years until his death in 1987.
Mom was devoted to family and was always there to console, support and help. Valuing education, she ensured her children had the opportunities she missed. She cherished family times fishing, picking berries and mushrooms, and vacationing at Grand Beach. Her pass times included sewing, embroidery and gardening. Ukrainian culture and religion were a part of her life. She loved to cook. Family and friends benefited from her bountiful meals and goody boxes. You never left her home hungry.
Always hard working, she was a loyal employee of the Manitoba Club for 28 years until her retirement in 1986 when her husband got cancer.
Mom was an active at St. Mary the Protectress Church until her illness. She was vice-president of the ladies auxiliary, on St Andrews Brotherhood, the sick visiting committee, as well as helping elderly members shop, clean their homes or do laundry.
Mom joined all the senior centers in the north end and was a lifetime member at Dufferin. She enjoyed all the gambling trips.
When her brother Paul died, her health declined. Eventually she had to live with her daughter Jean, until Jean was unable to care for her. For four and a half years Doris called St. John's unit at Holy Family home. Thanks to all the wonderful staff who cared for Mom and to the staff who prayed with us for Mom's soul at the end. Thanks to Father Harkavyi and Father Maximiuk for your prayers.
She will forever be remembered by her daughter Jean Kusko and husband John, granddaughters Laura and Diane, and brother Alex. She also leaves her daughter Bonnie Krauthaker (Frank), granddaughter Christine, great granddaughter Rhiannon, niece Marianne Hodges(Greg), nephews Jim Kirkness (Cheryl) and Paul Woloschuk (Melody), cousins Carl(Ann) and Mike (Stella) Spytkowsky and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband John, brother Paul and all her sister and brother in laws.
Prayers will be said on Tues. May 8 at 7:00 PM in the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 9 at 10:00 am in St Mary the Protectress, 820 Burrows Avenue, with interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Thanks for the wonderful memories! I'll never forget your clear blue eyes, your loving smile and heart so full of love and grace! Jean
