Obituary of JOHN JAMES TERWIN

JOHN JAMES TERWIN June 13, 1942 – April 24, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, John James Terwin at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, Manitoba on April 24, 2014. John leaves to mourn his loving wife of 48 years, Georgina and daughter Kerry Fehr. As well as his son-in-law and best buddy Gerald Fehr. John also leaves to mourn his brother Gerard (Donna) Terwin, sisters Cora Bzovey and Belle Pearson, brother-in- law Bob (Arlene) Hamill, sisters-in-law Marlene Terwin, Marguerite Pinchuk, Pat (Joe) Santucci, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his precious son Jamie, parents Ethel and Johannes Terwin, brother Pieter Terwin and sisters Jean Rairie and Betty Midford. John has left behind a legacy of love and giving that has touched the souls of many, many people, most of all his family. The circle of friends that he built over the years was his pride and joy. To know him was to love him. He was a quick witted, giving, kind and honest man who loved to tell a story. But most of all he was a true friend to all. His huge smile and big voice will be remembered forever! John was an avid sportsman who had a competitive edge. Over the years he played hockey, baseball and curling. But his true love was a 6am game of golf with his buddies at Northernaire and more recently at the Links. John was looking forward to the upcoming golf season now that he was fully recovered from his hip replacement. John shared his love of sports with his kids which led the family to become involved with the Isaac Brock Community Centre where he volunteered coaching and flooding ice. No matter what activity his kids wanted to participate in he was there to make it happen. John loved his time at the lake so much that after 12 years in Spruce Sands Trailer Park he and Georgina purchased a lot in Valhalla Beach where they spent countless hours building what he believed would be their retirement home. With his power of persuasion, he was able to convince Georgina to move there in 2000 after he retired from a 40 year career with the Codville Company. Retirement provided him the opportunity to begin a new career as the local snow removal, lawn care and tree removal guy in Arnes. He worked at his own pace- fast, furious and often too hard but he loved every minute of it. Nothing brought him more pleasure than buying a new piece of equipment or ensuring his friends were able to get out of their driveways by 9am after a heavy snowfall. Flowers are gratefully declined. To best honor John’s memory, please do a kind favour for a friend or neighbor. Donations can be made in John’s memory to The Children’s Hospital Foundation (Pediatric Oncology Unit) www.goodbear.mb.ca or to the Gimli Palliative Care Program, Box 250, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0.
