PETER SHAWARSKY

Obituary of PETER SHAWARSKY

PETER SHAWARSKY (August 7, 1923 – March 29, 2014) With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Peter Shawarsky, on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Victoria Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Nadia (nee Shcherbluk) of 63 years, sons Ihor and Oleh, daughters-in-law Lydia and Vera, grandchildren Andrew, Mark (Mika) and Adriana, great-grandson Matthew, as well as extended family in Ukraine and Poland. He was predeceased by his parents Paraskevia and Oleksander, brother Andriy and son Alexander. He was born in the village of Kostiashyn, Sokalsky Rayon, Ukraine, and came to Canada in 1949. He settled in Winnipeg where he met and married Nadia and together raised their family. Peter was a long-time member of the Bohonos Male Chorus and the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral where he sang for many years as a tenor in the church choir. He was employed with the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation department and remained there until his retirement in 1988. He loved music, singing, reading, and especially a challenging game of chess or cards with his grandsons. Above all, tato valued family and was most content when presiding over our many family gatherings. The family would like to thank the health care providers at Victoria Hospital for their tender care and support. Also, we would like to thank all our friends and family for the support they have given us in these last few weeks. A special thank you to long-time family physician, Dr. S. Szajkowski, and his medical office assistant, Chris. Tato will be forever loved and missed. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, 1175 Main St. with Very Rev. Gregory Mielnik officiating. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Vichnaya Pam’yat! Memory Eternal!
