Obituary of RUTH ROBINSON

RUTH ROBINSON (nee DUNN) July 8, 1914 – February 7, 2014 Peacefully on the evening of February 7th Ruth passed away at the age of 99. Ruth is survived by her son Bayden (Kelowna), and her three daughters, Diana (Gerry), Beryl, and Bonnie (Ken) of Winnipeg as well as 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and many grand dogs. She also leaves behind many dear relatives and very special friends. She was predeceased by her two brothers Herman and Wilfred (surviving wife, Marie). Ruth was born in Rathwell, MB growing up on a farm south of Portage La Prairie. She worked hard all her life. Her early years were spent helping with the many chores around the farm. In 1939 she sewed uniforms for the soldiers in the war. She moved to Winnipeg and married William (Bill) Robinson on July 3, 1942. She worked for Gaspard’s, sewing robes for clergy and graduation gowns. Ruth spent many years at Quinton’s before venturing into the restaurant business. She worked at various restaurants before managing the Headingly Husky Restaurant. Ruth was famous for her homemade pies. Nobody made a crust like mom! Ruth was an avid sports fan and an expert cribbage player. She was always eager to attend her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s favourite activity or sport. She could be seen bundled up at many a hockey game. After retiring, Ruth moved to 64 Nassau where she made many lifelong friends. She organized bus trips, concerts, teas, and participated in many of the activities, bingo and Chit–Chat being two of her favourites. The last five months were spent at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. She continued to come out for Sunday dinners where she enjoyed playing cribbage with the family and winning our quarters. The family would like to thank the residents of 64 Nassau and the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their support. We would especially like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital 7th floor for the kind and compassionate care given to Ruth and the family at this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kids Sports Canada, 423 - 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2Z6 or a charity of your choice.
