Obituary of ANN KARLICKI

ANN KARLICKI (nee Nechwediuk) December 21, 1926 - January 17, 2014 With great sadness we announce the passing of Ann Karlicki at the Victoria General Hospital. Ann is survived by her loving husband, William(Bill) , son William, daughter Barbara, grandson Jared, sister Marilyn (Wally) Smelski, brother-in-law Walter Karlicki, sisters-in-law Tillie Rystephaniuk and Joyce Nechwediuk and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son John, parents Jacob and Helen Nechwediuk, brothers Joe, John, Peter, sister Lynn Spencer. Ann was born in Sandy Lake, Manitoba and attended the local school, graduating from grade 12. She taught school in Elk Ranch, and High Plains, Manitoba. While teaching at High Plains, west of Poplarfield, she met her future husband William. They were married at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sandy Lake on June 21, 1948. Bill and Ann farmed for a few years in the High Plain area. A son, William Jacob was born followed by daughter Barbara Ellen. They were in the hotel business for 15 years during which time, Ann was a great help. During the years spent in Winnipeg, Ann was employed at the T. Eaton bake shop and later at Manitoba Hydro before retiring in 1985. In 1976, Ann and Bill purchased their present home in Fort Garry, where they took great enjoyment in helping to raise their grandson. Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and Bill recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Ann enjoyed being at home spending time with her family. When her health was still good, Ann enjoyed long walks, reading, listening to her records, doing cross words, sewing and her family photo albums. Every spring she eagerly awaited the return of her morning doves. Ann was gifted with a remarkable memory and could recite poems and songs off by heart. She was gifted with beautiful penmanship especially noteworthy was her capital "A". A ceramic course she took gifted us with several pieces to cherish. Ann enjoyed visits to the family farm in Sandy lake with her sister, Marilyn, and to Powell River, B.C. with her sister, Lynn. Ann loved her travels to Hawaii, Arizona, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Mexico. Ann was a kind, gentle soul and had a quality of goodness that was difficult to define. She was devout in her Christian Catholic faith. She began her day in prayer. She was named after St. Ann, Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The family would like to thank Dr. Permack and all her many care givers.
