Obituary of SERGEI L. SHERMAN

SERGEI L. SHERMAN 1938-2013 It is with sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Sergei, at home, in his 75th year. Sergei leaves to mourn his loving wife Elizabeth (Pachkowski), daughters Louise, Thomasin, and Judith, granddaughters Katherine, Antonia, and Sophie, sons-in-law Calvin, Darren, Richard and Bruce; brothers-in-law Chuck (Eileen) and John (Lee), sister-in-law Adelene; and many nieces and nephews. Sergei was predeceased by his mother Sophie, father Peter, and sister Elizabeth. After teaching in a number of rural schools in Manitoba, Sergei spent 25 years as an administrator, guidance counsellor, and classroom teacher in Charleswood. An active member of his church community, he was a Knight of Columbus for 30 years. He held many offices in his local council, joined the Fourth Degree and was Faithful Navigator of Capt. Miles MacDonnell Assembly 0370. Sergei served as a volunteer for Winnipeg Police Service, Grace Hospital and was a member of the Board of Directors of Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba. Sergei was a devoted family man. He was as large in life as he was in stature. He was a caring, forgiving, and generous spiritual being who lived life for each day and counted life’s many blessings. His faith was unshakeable, even in the face of challenge. He left lasting impressions on his students, his family and his community, and will remain forever in our hearts. A memorial service will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd. on Friday December 20, at 11:00 a.m., with Msgr. Maurice Comeault PH officiating.
