ANNA SYROISZKA

Obituary of ANNA SYROISZKA

ANNIE SYROISZKA (FOSTY) October 29, 1916 – September 28, 2011 Peacefully on September 28, 2011 at the age of 94, the time had come for her to be with her husband Steve who predeceased her in 1987. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Olga and husband Joe Cooney. Annie was born in Zhoda, Manitoba, the eldest of nine children of Jack and Hafia Fosty. She left home at an early age to work at various jobs on other farms and in Winnipeg. She married Steve in 1939 and together they made a life in Toronto with their family and friends. They spent many years in Toronto working hard and travelling to visit friends in Detroit and driving back to Winnipeg to see family. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, gardening, and entertaining friends and family in their home. She was the ultimate hostess. Upon their retirement they returned to Winnipeg to be closer to family. They had a beautiful life. Her later years were filled with friends, trips to Garden City, visiting with family, cooking and travelling to visit Olga. Annie was predeceased by her husband Steve (1987), her parents Jack (1987) and Hafia (1995), grandparents Yurko and Maria Lucyk, her brothers John, Peter and Bill, sister Pauline, in-laws Roman, Bill, Johnny and Mary. She was also predeceased by nieces, Gail and Diana. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Mary Brygidyr, Margie Huen, Helen Shologin, Elsie (Tom) Wade, sisters-in-law Joyce Fosty and Olga Fosty as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was the family matriarch and historian and had a keen ability to recall specific details from all the family occasions over the years. She lived an independent life and loved her family and friends. In her own words, "My nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and their families have a special place in my heart of gold. My life comes to an end at peace with myself. I look upon my life as a miracle; the day has come to join my husband Steve. I’ve had a beautiful life, now I say Good-Bye to All", Annie.
