Obituary of MICHAEL KUBARA

MICHAEL KUBARA It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father on Thursday, August 25, 2011 peacefully at the age of 88 years. Michael was predeceased by his wife Mary (Dzus/Joss) in 2001; daughter Judy Szun in 2009, his parents Anna (Papirniak) and Michael Sr.; brothers William (Jean), John (Minnie); sister Helen (Steve) Dobrinsky.; brothers-in-law William Andronick and Richard (Dick) Rose. Left to mourn are his 3 sons, Michael (Judy), Donald, Richard (Brenda) sisters Olga Andronick and Emilee Rose, brother Edward (Jennie), son-in-law Eugene Szun, grandchildren Paul (Tina), Janelle, Adam, Lisa and Michael, great-grandchildren Nicholas, Matthew, Joshua and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many life long friends. Michael was raised in the North End of Winnipeg and worked with his father and brothers in the family construction business at 1057 Boyd Ave. He attended Lord Nelson and St. John’s Tech Schools completing Grade 11. He enlisted in the RCAF at 18 years of age, served as an Air Frame Mechanic and was also a life long member of the Ukrainian Legion Br. #141. He met Mary at Prosvita Dance Hall in 1940 and they were married in 1942. They started a family in 1943 when Judy was born. In 1947 he started work at Eaton’s at the Alexander Street warehouse, then downtown (furniture sales), retiring at Polo Park Store as Sales Manager in 1987, after 40 years of devoted service. Michael enjoyed travelling with Mary whom he loved so much. He cherished the time spent in their garden and fishing and relaxing with all the family at the cottage at Big Whiteshell Lake. He loved regular visits from his grandchildren, family neighbours and friends. Prayers will be held on Thursday, September 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, September 2 at 10:30 a.m. also at the church with Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Bachutskyy officiating. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. VICHNAYA PAM’YAT
