Obituary of ALVINA KNIGHT
ALVINA JOSEPHINE KNIGHT
(nee Knockaert)
Peacefully, on Friday, August 26, 2011, at River Park Gardens Personal Care home, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away the age of 92.
She is survived by her 3 sons, John Joseph (Paula) of Vancouver, BC, Robert Haig (Brenda) of Winnipeg, and Michael Francis (Cheryl) of Winnipeg, grandchildren Tara (Jeff) Ciecko, Trina (Brian) Hargrave, Lauren, Craig (Camille), Erin (Brendan) O’Shaughnessy, Jonathon and Caitlin as well as one great-grandchild Kate Knight.
She was predeceased by her husband John Haig, brother Joe Knockaert, sons Jeffrey and Paul Gerald, infant daughter Rose-Marie and grandson Paul Knight.
Alvina was born September 30, 1918, in Ste. Rose du Lac and raised by her dad on the dairy farm. They moved up to Winnipeg where she met the love of her life John Knight. They were married in Vancouver on June 5, 1940. Due to John’s career in the R.C.A.F. they were stationed in various locations in Canada and eventually settled in Charleswood to raise their family.
Mom’s passion in life was painting and she spent countless hours at night, after the boys were asleep, working on her landscape paintings. She received an Art Certificate from the University of Washington. Alvina was an avid bridge player and spent many enjoyable afternoons playing bridge and drinking coffee with her friends.
Mom and Dad both cherished friends and family and their doors were always open to anyone who wanted to ‘stop by to visit and have a cup of coffee or a drink.’ They were very active in the various communities in which they lived and contributed to many charitable activities. Later in their lives they enjoyed many trips abroad and numerous excursions and tours by bus. Ultimately they spent their retirement years in St. Vital.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverside Lions Estates and River Park Gardens for all their wonderful care.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
Those who wish, may make a donation in Mom’s memory to a charity of your choice.
