Obituary of Muriel Zwarich

MURIEL ZWARICH April 18, 1929 - June 4, 2009 Peacefully in her sleep, Muriel passed away in the early hours of June 4, 2009. After a brave and valiant fight, Muriel finally fell victim to the cancer that was diagnosed a year earlier. Muriel will be dearly missed by her husband Michael, her daughters Nancy and Gail, son David, grandchildren Elizabeth, Kane and Levi. She was predeceased by her daughter Donna, her parents and her brother, Bud. Muriel was born in rural Borden, Saskatchewan. Her early years on the farm were difficult yet she retained fond memories of them. After completing her high school in North Battleford, Muriel moved to Saskatoon to get a job and financially support the family farm. While in Saskatoon, Muriel met her future husband, Michael. They were married on October 13, 1951 and shortly thereafter moved to New Jersey where Michael attended graduate school at Rutgers University. While Michael went to school, Muriel worked to support them and then after work, spent countless hours typing drafts of Michael's thesis. In 1956, Michael and Muriel moved to Winnipeg. Michael joined the Faculty at the University of Manitoba and Muriel settled into her life as a loving wife, mother, and later, grandmother. In addition to caring for her family, Muriel was actively involved in the Holy Family branch of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. How Muriel found the time and energy to complete everything she did, only a truly devoted mother would know. Muriel was a kind and gentle woman who will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbours. Muriel's family would like to thank the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Center for the care and attention they provided Muriel in her final days. Divine Liturgy will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Avenue, with Rev. Father Mark Gnutel officiating. Prayers will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division.
