Mary ZELINSKI

Obituary of Mary ZELINSKI

MARY ZELINSKI It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on June 11, 2009 at the age of 85. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Steve; parents Anna and Maxim Gardy; sister Katherine (Roy) McNeill; brothers Michael and Peter Gardy; niece Donna Dennis and nephew Jim Gardy. She will be dearly missed by her children Steven (Sharon) and Teresa; grandchildren Shawn, Shannon (Scotty) and Samantha (Alex); precious great-grandchildren Julia, Kaitlyn, Nathan and Jillian. Also mourning her passing are nephew Roger (Pat) McNeill; nieces Sandra (Terry) Morrow and Judy (Wayne) Boehler, and sister-in-law Angeline Johnson of Santa Ana, California. Mom was born on September 29, 1923 in the family home on Gallagher Avenue in the village of Brooklands. She was especially fond of the people she grew up with, and with whom she stayed in touch. After graduating from Brooklands School, Mom worked various odd jobs until she landed an office clerk position at Manitoba Cold Storage. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there and often commented how everyone was so nice. With the birth of her children, Mom became a full-time homemaker, spoiling us with fabulous meals and desserts, including all of the traditional favorites. Staying at home allowed Mom to meet three incredible women, Jennie, Liz and Lillian, a.k.a. the "coffee club". For the past 44 years the club would meet every two weeks. Ladies, Mom cherished your friendship, and she says "God Bless". Mom loved to travel and with Teresa was able to enjoy numerous vacations. Favorite U.S. destinations included New Orleans, Miami, Hawaii, Orlando, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Baltimore and Palm Springs. But her trip to Scotland and England was particularly special, with Mom calling it her once in a lifetime adventure. As an original member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, she attended mass and served the parish for over 60 years. For the past 20 years she attended St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. and this is where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory may be made to the St. Nicholas Church Restoration and Maintenance Fund or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Vichnaya Pam'Yat
