John ZELENY

Obituary of John ZELENY

JOHN ZELENY April 10, 1921 - January 28, 2009 It is with great sadness that on January 28, 2009, with his whole family at his side, our beloved John passed away suddenly and peacefully after a short illness. John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Eva and two daughters, Anna (Don) and Maria (Jim); grandfather to Loren (David) Kelly, Chrissy, Julie (Jamie); great grandfather to Jayden; and other family members in the Ukraine. John was born in the village of Kryne Western Ukraine on April 10, 1921. He spent his childhood and young adulthood in war-ridden Ukraine where he experienced many hardships and personal losses. John immigrated to Canada and worked as a miner in Bissett, MB before his wife Eva and two young daughters joined him. He was an extremely hard worker and a smart and sensitive man. He worked at Aetna Roofing for many years. He was very mechanical, precise when doing things and extremely handy. He helped his family in many ways whether it was helping to build a garage, a fence or a deck. "Gigi" as his family affectionately called him was extremely generous and always willing to help. In his retirement years, he loved to do puzzles and rug hooking. He enjoyed many hours with his family in Don and Anna's backyard, also the occasional trips to Morden. We will always love this great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will forever be missed but remain in our hearts until we meet again. "Gigi" you were a wonderful man and you will be missed so very much. Prayers will be said on Monday, February 2, at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor Avenue. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to a charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT Rest in Peace
