Obituary of Alexander Zaluski

ALEXANDER MICHAEL ZALUSKI The family is saddened to announce the passing of Alexander Michael Zaluski on January 17, 2011 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 88 years. He was predeceased by his wife Elsie (Alice) Bazarynski and his parents Michael Zaluski and Tekla Szkwarek and his granddaughter Tara Zaluski. Alex will be missed by his children Vikki (Dick Beyak), Robert (Gail) Zaluski, Eileen (Randy Dola) and Jeff Zaluski; grandchildren Nina (Paul Manning), Jocelyn, Lisa (Bryant Thomson), Michael Dola (Nicole) and Sean Dola; great grandchildren Owen and Tia Manning and many nieces and nephews. Alexander was born on January 19, 1922. He grew up in Meleb, Manitoba where he attended Park School and he excelled in such sports as high jump and baseball. As a young man he had numerous cars and trucks. His first truck was a 1946 GMC and his first car was a 1947 Chevy. In the late 1940's he worked for Ontario Hydro in Nipigon and Schreiber Ontario for five years. He spoke of how he enjoyed the Niagara Falls area during his time there. Dad later returned to Manitoba to marry Elsie (Alice) Bazarynski. He said it was love at first sight. They were married on October 27, 1951 at Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Meleb, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg. They were married for 56 years and raised four children. He worked for Canadian Pacific Railway at Weston Shop as a Carmen Carpenter for 32 years. Alex was a member of St. John Cantius' Church of Winnipeg and St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church of Meleb where he helped with the restoration of the church during his retirement. Dad enjoyed spending weekends at the farm in Meleb where he looked after his garden and always seemed to be repairing or building something. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends and no one ever left hungry or thirsty. He was a very good handyman, fixing things around the house and also helping neighbours and friends. One of his favourite past times was listening to hockey games on the radio or watching it on TV. Words cannot express how much we will miss him, nor how much we learned from him, nor how much we love him. Prayers will be said on Friday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 22 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius' Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Avenue with Rev. Fr. Yolando Gamallo as Celebrant.
