Obituary of David WOOLLEY

DAVID JOHN WOOLLEY Peacefully, on the morning of July 4,2009, David Woolley passed away, surrounded by his family. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Lynne and Gail, sons-in-law Ian and Jim, granddaughters Shelley (peter), Megan, and Kendra (Michael), and great-grandchildren Elyse and Charlie. Dave is also survived by his sister Laura, brother-in-law Connie, sister-in-law Audrey, and many nieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by Ethel, his wife of 51 years, and his parents, his sister Margaret and brother-in-law Arthur, his brother Jim and sister-in-law Ellen, his brother Harold, his brother Leonard and sister-in-law Gladys. David was born in Winnipeg on April 10, 1914. He grew up in the west end of Winnipeg and graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in 1931. After many tough years during the Great Depression, he finally found work and was able to marry Ethel Barker in 1939. In 1942, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. He started as a Sergeant and became a Regimental Sergeant Major during the course of his service. He was attached to the British Army under Field Marshal Montgomery and spent 2 1/2 years in England and northern Europe. Returning to his wife and daughter in 1946, they soon welcomed another daughter in 1947. Dave spent most of his remaining working years at the Winnipeg Supply Co. and at Northwest Wholesale Co. He was a member of ASHRAE (heating engineers). He was a long time member of Broadway First Baptist Church, and later, of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He served in many leadership roles in the churches and attended faithfully until after his 90th year. Dave lived in Catherine Place for 10 years, and moved to Extendicare, Oakview Place last December. The family would like to thank the staff at both of these places for their kindness toward our Dad. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 1 :00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg. If friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, or to a charity of their choice.
