Obituary of Margaret Vandendorpe

Margaret Ann Vandendorpe (nee Henderson) Peacefully with her family by her side, Margaret, beloved wife of Albert Vandendorpe, passed away at Riverview Health Center on February 20, 2011 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She leaves to cherish her memory, son Robert, wife Janet (Andrew, Kelsey, Kendra), daughters Sheryl Hergesheimer, husband David (Lindsay, Jessica) and Laureen Spitzke, husband Stuart (Mackenna, Alex), brothers Gordon (Lucille), Ronald (Lorraine), Ralph (Wanda), Lawrence (Judy), sister Ella, sisters and brothers-in- law Edna, Barb, Annie, Simone (Ronald), Rene (Irene), Gerard, Angele, Mary (Rene), Germaine (Jim), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her father Clarence (1977), mother Elizabeth (1988), sister Myrtle (2008), brothers Robert (1998), James (2009), infant Stanley (1944), sister -in-law Florette (1999), brothers- in-law Wes, Mike, Denis, father- in-law Andrew (1992) and mother- in- law Irene (1980). Margaret was born in Treherne, MB on June 16, 1945 and was raised in the Altamont District. In 1962, she attended Marvel Beauty School and began her hairdressing career at Gordon's Hairdressing in Portage La Prairie. On June 4, 1966, she married Albert, moved to Transcona and worked at Ann's Beauty Salon until 1971 when she opened Margaret's Beauty Salon in the basement of their home. She successfully ran her salon and raised her young family at home until 1991 when she closed her business to attend Herzing Career College. She graduated with Honours from the Doctor's Office Assistant Program in 1991. From then on, until she retired in 2005 at the age of 60, Margaret enjoyed being a Work Experience Coordinator and an Instructor at Herzing. Margaret loved many things including caring for her garden and her beautiful plants. She had a passion for reading and learning, always striving for excellence. She loved playing scrabble and cards with her family. Margaret and Albert were active in many dance clubs, dancing together flawlessly hour after hour. She loved country music and old western movies. Margaret had a strong love of family and friends. She was loyal, loving and kind to all, welcoming people into her home graciously. Margaret was devoted, strong and very loved by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 710 B Roanoke St. A private family interment will be held in Altamont, MB. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to Adoption Options Manitoba, 1313 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0V3 or the Canadian Wildlife Federation 1-800-563-9453 ext. 211.
