August (Gus) van Ginkel Peacefully on Tuesday July 6, 2010, Gus van Ginkel passed away, with his family by his side, at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB at the age of 79 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Josephine, his children Margaret (Glenn), Peter, Robert (Jennifer), Cecile (Frank), and Karen (Clinton), as well as his grandchildren Victoria, Rebecca, Matthew, Samantha, Jessica, Frank, Cole, Hannah, and Nathan. Gus will also be remembered by his brother Tony (Rosemary), sisters Kitty and Elsy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Gus was predeceased by his father Peter and his mother Johanna, his sisters Trudy, Mary, Annie, and his brothers John, William, Frank, Peter, and Gerry, as well as several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Gus was born January 6, 1931 in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and moved to Winnipeg when he was 23 years old. He married Josephine in January 1959. Gus worked for many years in the construction industry as a general contractor. He retired in 1997 at the age of 66. Gus served in many capacities in the Third and Fourth Degrees of the Knights of Columbus including Grand Knight, District Deputy, Faithful Navigator, and Faithful Master. Gus was very active in his church, serving as choir director for many years. He was also an advisor on a number of construction projects throughout the St. Boniface Archdiocese. We would like to thank Gus' many friends and family who have shown their love and support during his illness. We would also like to express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and support staff at the Victoria General Hospital, Holy Family Nursing Home, and the Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, July 12 at 9:30 a.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. with Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski, V.G. as Celebrant. Interment to follow in the Belgium Sacred Heart Cemetery, 501 Plinquet St.
