Obituary of Tony URBANCZYK

TONY URBANCZYK Peacefully on October 17, 2008 Anthony Joseph Urbanczyk passed away at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. He leaves to cherish his memory all those who knew and loved him. Tony was born in Budapest, Hungary on February 3, 1939. At the age of 14 he began an apprenticeship in cabinet making. War and unrest came to the area of Hungary that he lived in. Tony did not want any part of harming his fellow man in war and knew that the draft was inevitable. He looked at a globe for a peaceful country that there was no war and stuck his finger on Canada. So at the age of 17 Tony left all he knew behind and found himself in Montreal. Three months later, Tony moved to Red Lake, Ontario to work in mining for a few years. Tony then moved to BC and opened a Pizza Restaurant. Here he met and married Anne and they had two children. After ten years of marriage Tony divorced. He moved to Winnipeg and managed another Pizza Restaurant until he retired at the age of 55 due to health problems. In 1978, Tony came thru the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous. In A.A. Tony found a new family, love, life and happiness. He devoted his time and energy to A.A. He was a dedicated volunteer who served at the Main Street Project and held many positions for A.A. He was one of the founding members of A West-K Home Group until it closed due to the sale of the property. Tony took great joy as he helped many of his sponsee's return to health and happy sobriety.
