Max Tapper

Obituary of Max Tapper

MAX TAPPER On Monday, May 25, 2009, Max Tapper, beloved brother, father and zaida, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Max Tapper was born in Winnipeg in 1944 to working-class Jewish immigrant parents, Sylvia and Sam Tapper. He went to St. John's High School where he discovered his love of theatre and the arts. Max joined the Interfaith Harmony Theatre Group and found his way to the stage of the Manitoba Theatre Centre. He continued acting for stage, television and film for decades. While at Manitoba Theatre Centre, he discovered his talent for administration, which led him to the positions of Director of Development at Manitoba Theatre Centre and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Max became the Executive Director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Max made a significant impact and contribution to the arts in Canada through years of consulting and committee work with many organizations such as the Canada Council for the Arts. Max was a great storyteller and an eloquent public speaker. His intellect, charisma, sense of humour and charm drew others to him and will be greatly missed by many. He was a proud, supportive and loving father to his four sons, Evan, Jason, Simon and Jonathan. He took great pride in his girls, his daughter-in-law Susie and his two granddaughters, Madeline and Emily, who were lucky enough to have a special, loving bond with their zaida. He is also remembered dearly as a brother to Harry and Sophie Tapper, as an uncle, great-uncle and friend. A service in his memory will be held Sunday, May 31 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Max's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Cropo Chapel
