Obituary of Judith R.N.
JUDITH (JUDY) DIANE SZUN R.N.
(nee KUBARA)
After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Judith (Judy) Diane Szun, aged 66 years on Tuesday September 15, 2009 at the Women's Hospital (HSC).
Judy is survived by her loving family, husband Eugene of 43 years, son Paul (Valentine), grandson Nicholas, father Michael Kubara Sr., brothers Michael W. (Judy), Donald and Richard (Brenda), brothers in law Norman (Louise) and Daniel Sr. (Gloria) Szun, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Judy was predeseased by her mother Mary Kubara in 2001.
Judy was born on May 18, 1943 in Winnipeg, where she was a lifetime member of Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church. She attended Lord Nelson, Andrew Mynarski Jr. High and Sisler High School, and then graduated from St. Boniface School of Nursing in 1962, primarily working on Ward 3A until her retirement in 2000.
For several years she served on the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Nurses Union, and was a founding member of a close nit group of co-workers, "The Supper Club", of the postpartum Ward 3A, right up to the time of her passing.
Besides nursing, Judy honed her managerial skills working for the Copper Craft Guild of Canada and Michelle Lynn home party based companies, which led to extensive travel throughout Europe, South America, Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean.
Upon completion of travel agency courses, she became a corporate travel representative with Uniglobe Rock Travel. In 1994, she and long time friend Janet Lalchun established Dynasty Tours Inc., who just this past week celebrated their 15th year of successful operations.
Besides travelling, Judy loved spending time at the family cottage in the Whiteshell. Her greatest joy was her grandson Nicholas. They loved spending time together. She was very proud to be a "grandma".
The family wishes to thank Dr. George Korol and staff, Dr. Erin Dean, the oncology team and staff at the Womens Hospital CancerCare Clinic, St. Boniface Hospital. We would also like to thank the staff on Ward 3B at St. Boniface Hospital and the Home Care nurses for their care.
Pallbearers will be: Donald Kubara, Richard Kubara, Russell Kubara, Keith Joss, Ken Joss, and Charles Miklovich.
Prayers will be said on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Ave. Devine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. also at the Church with Rev. Fr. V. Bashutskyy officiating. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Virgin Mary Church Building Fund.
