Obituary of Daniel Szun

DANIEL JOSEPH SZUN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Daniel Szun. After a lengthy illness, Daniel passed away on August 6th, 2010 with his wife at his side. Dan is remembered fondly by his loving family: wife Gloria of 45 years, son Danny, son Chris (Trudy), daughter Patricia, and his four grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler, Jessica, and Jayson. He is also survived by brothers Norman (Louise) and Eugene, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Dan was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Sophie, and daughter Diane. Daniel had a strong connection with Christ and was deeply devoted to the Catholic Church throughout his life. His strong beliefs aided him in his final months as his illness progressed. Dan was born on June 7, 1940 in Winnipeg, MB. He attended Faraday School, Isaac Newton Jr. High, and Tec Voc High. Dan began working for the CNR at the age of 16. His career began with summer jobs on the meal-cars while still a student, and ended at the age of 55 in a management position. Dan was very proud of his career with the railway and cherished the many friends he made during those days. Dan's greatest love was spending time with his family. He led them on many summer adventures, camping from the Maritimes to the Pacific Ocean, and all throughout the United States. In his later years, he enjoyed his summers camping at Falcon Lake. Dan's love of traveling also took him abroad to Europe, as well as several winter trips to Hawaii. Dan was especially fond of his grandchildren, and they couldn't have had a more loving and devoted grandpa. He loved attending their sports events and concerts, and always took them on little adventures whenever possible. We will all miss him greatly. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. Respecting Dan's wishes, cremation and interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Daniel had asked for donations to be made to The Welcome Home at 188 Euclid Ave to help those in need. Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044
