Obituary of Kateryna SZUL
KATERYNA SZUL
Kateryna (Catherine) Szul, ne Bogucki, died peacefully on April 16, 2008 at Holy Family Nursing Home. She was born on May 4, 1917, in the village of Hordynia, district of Sambir, Lviv oblast, Ukraine. She encountered a harsh and hard life: poverty, war, strife, family losses, chronic family illness, multiple moves. She had to adapt to life in France, Venezuela, and Canada. She remained undaunted during the course of her life. She struggled. She survived. She had disappointments. She had triumphs. She cried. She laughed. Along with a strong faith in God, she persevered with hard work, determination, and generosity, to make a life for her family and herself. She succeeded. Devotion to family was paramount. She was predeceased by her parents: Stephan Bogucki and Maria Frelyk, and her siblings: Joseph, Julia, and Dmytro. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Andrew; her son, John Michael; her daughter-in-law, Hanya; grand-children: Danylo, Alexa, Juliana, and Andrei; her sister-in-law, Anastasia and niece, Hanya, and their families; her in-laws, Jaroslav and Maria Czemerynski and their family, and many more relatives in Canada, USA and Ukraine. The family is grateful to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's Home Care Program and their dedicated workers, and to Holy Family Nursing Home and its kind, caring staff. Parastas will take place Sunday April 20 at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 1001 Grant Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the church Monday April 21 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Kateryna's memory to Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave, Winnipeg MB, R2W 1T9, or to Holy Family Church, 1001 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg MB, R3M 1Y3. May Kateryna rest in the peace of God! "Nekhai z Bohom spochyvaie! Vichnaya pam'yat!"
