Obituary of Josephine STUPAK

JOSEPHINE (JESSIE) STUPAK (nee ZDRILL) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished mother Jessie Stupak on July 22, 2009 at Grace Hospital with her family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Anton Stupak in 2001, also her brothers Paul and Charles and sisters Mary, Anne and Helen. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children: daughter Sally (Eugene) Shymkiw and sons Roger (Marthe), Bernie (Carey), Garry and Erven (Alice), grandchildren Angela Manhardt (Juerg), Eugene Shymkiw (Brigitte), Tonya Roos (Chris), James and Parry Shymkiw, Brian Stupack (Odilia), Brenda Baniuk (Keith), Darlene Hofer (Mitch), Tara Stupak, Darren Stupak, Natasha Yuska, Steven Yuska and Sean Smith, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. Mom is also survived by her sister Marge Romaniuk, one brother-in-law Ernie (Anne) Stupak, special neighbors John and Gisele, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mom was born March 19, 1920 to Andrew and Teckla Zdrill in Allegra, Manitoba and lived there with her family until she married our Dad Anton in 1938. They then moved to their own piece of virgin land in Allegra which they cleared and built up from scratch. They had to work hard to make ends meet and on this small farm they raised their family. They then moved to Winnipeg in September 1958 where Dad worked for the City of Winnipeg, but their love for country life and farming continued on weekends. Mom loved to plant her garden there and did so until 2007, spending many hard hours getting her hands and feet dirty in the soil, watering and weeding, picking raspberries and vegetables, then sharing them with family and friends. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling and went when the opportunity presented itself with their children and grandchildren. We have fond memories of trips taken to Mardi-Gras in New Orleans through the Appalachian Mountains and Eastern U.S., Texas, British Columbia and Thunder Bay with Mom and Dad as well as with Mom to Hawaii on 3 different occasions and once to Mexico. In her younger days, Mom loved picking berries and mushrooms with her family. Her favourite pastime was going to garage sales and to the grocery stores to check out the best buys she could get. Over the years she would knit countless pairs of mittens and socks for her young family and also sewed many lovely dresses for her granddaughters. She spent many hours babysitting some of her grandchildren who will forever treasure their time spent with her. Making perogies, cabbage rolls and borscht was never a problem for Mom - we well remember the roasters full of delicious cabbage rolls that came from her kitchen. After Dad's passing, Mom enjoyed her day programs at Holy Family and Fred Douglas Lodge and also going for lunch every Saturday with her special friend Alberta Fenning. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to the staff at the Deer Lodge Centre 6th Floor West for the wonderful care they provided for Mom in the final years of her life. Visitation will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Monday, July 27 at 10:30 a.m. followed by Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Mark Tarrant officiating. Interment at Holy Family Cemetery. Mom will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Rest in peace, Mom and Baba.
