Obituary of Rosalie Strell

Rosalie (Lee) Marie Strell (Nee Dupuis) April 11, 1918 - July 22, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of Lee Strell announces that she passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital with her children at her bedside. Left to always cherish her memory are her daughter, Lorraine (Don), granddaughter, Taylor Alexandra; her son Ellery (Susanne), grandson Benjamin (Alana), great- grandson Kamen; her eldest sister Alice McDevitt at 103; her brother-in-law, Walter (Muriel)and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Lee was predeceased by her loving husband, Alexander (Al), December 21, 1989; her dear parents Celina and Arthur Dupuis; dedicated brothers Joseph, Edouard and Henri; and inseparable sisters Doris Stewart, Irene White, Jeannette Gagne, Rita Matthes and Ida MacIntyre. The sisters left the Pas in the 30's and lived together in Winnipeg as young single women and remained close throughout their lives especially as avid bridge partners well into their 80's. For Al it was love at first sight in 1940 when he saw Lee at the Winnipeg Roller Rink. He courted her until they were married November 24, 1945. He was a flying instructor and bomber pilot with the R.C.A.F. She faithfully awaited the return of her officer and gentleman in August 1945. They became engaged during their long distance relationship and for the next 44 years loved and appreciated each others' qualities. Lee was a long time member of the Manitoba Pharmacists Women's Auxiliary, Holy Family Nursing Home Ladies' Auxiliary, C.U.A.C. Bowling League, West Kildonan Curling Rink, Bridge Club and Senior Achievers. As a young, active girl Lee enjoyed tap dancing, acrobats, softball, swimming, cycling, ice skating, badminton and continued roller skating into her 70's and bowling into her 90's. Our mom deeply cared for her family and friends and provided support and acts of kindness with humility and grace. She always maintained her integrity and independence with pride. Pain no more, peace forever, remembered and loved always. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P. H. officiating. Interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, a donation maybe made to the Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave. E., Winnipeg, R2W 1T9, or a charity of one's choice.
