Helen STARK

Obituary of Helen STARK

HELEN STARK We are saddened to announce the loss of our favourite 'aunt-ique', our Aunt Helen Stark, but we are grateful that after a long life well-lived, she can finally rest. Helen Stark was born at home on the family farm near Morris on October 9, 1918. She passed away at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg on December 21st, 2010. She was the second of four children born to Ludwig and Amalia Stark, and was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Johanna, Edmund and Dina. Helen grew up on the farm, and then moved to Winnipeg for employment. She was a self-sufficient and self-supporting woman whose career spanned domestic service, housekeeping and switchboard operator at the Hotel Fort Garry, Transair, Holiday Inn, and the Province of Manitoba. She travelled extensively, visiting family and former workmates across Canada and the western U.S. Helen was strong-willed and determined, with a razor-sharp memory for the finest details and a knack for dispensing old-wives' tales, most of which had some actual value. She lived independently until about a year before her death at the age of 92. Her final birthday was celebrated this past October, and it was in her own words, "the best birthday of my life!" There were two things that were most important to Aunt Helen... her family and her faith. She was a life-long member of Faith Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the choir and with the Lutheran Choral. She had an unwavering faith in God and we know that she is rejoicing that she has "gone to glory". Besides her siblings and parents, Helen was also predeceased by her niece Elaine, her brother-in-law John, and her sister-in-law Margaret. She will be fondly remembered by her extended family and friends. Traditional funeral service will be held on Monday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations may be made in Helen's memory to Faith Lutheran Church or a charity of their choice. Well done, good and faithful servant... enter into the joy of your Lord.
