Obituary of Stanley SMITH
STANLEY BERNARD SMITH
Peacefully on July 20, 2009 surrounded by his family, Stanley passed away at the age of 82. He will be lovingly remembered by Bernice, his wife of 60 years; their children Janice Paulick, Michael, Leslie, Alison and husband Dan Postnicks, and grandchildren Hunter and Laura, and dog Abby.
Stanley was predeceased by his parents Peter and Anne Smith and his sister Phyllis Golembiski.
Born in Winnipeg on May 26, 1927, Stanley grew up in Point Douglas and attended Norquay School and St. John's High School where he was active in football. He started with CN Railway as an Apprentice Machinist progressing to Senior Management and retiring after 37 years in 1986.
Outside of work, Stanley was a devoted family man always having time to lend a helping hand to his children. He was a skilled carpenter and built furniture, a cottage and two sailboats. He loved to go camping, play golf and grow his tomatoes.
The family would like to thank Anne and the caring staff in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 24 at 1:00 PM at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Rev. Msgr. Maurice J. Comeault, P. H. officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery.
We have seen strength, like an oak in the storm. We have felt gentleness, like a golden summer dawn. We have heard laughter, like a splashing waterfall. We have felt protection, like a shelter all around. All from a life that gave us life, all from our father's love.
